Hey mates, I saved up ALOT of money (for me at least) to spend on a high performance gaming computer and have everything picked out on new egg that I want but I'm not sure that these parts are compatible. Are these computer parts compatible? Thank you!

Hi cjbranden, welcome to GeeksToGo!

There's quite a few compatibility issues with your build. Can you answer a few questions for me?

1) What is your budget for this build?
2) What will you be using this computer for?
3) Are you overclocking? Do you have experience?
4) Are you sticking with that 19" monitor or are you buying a bigger one?

The compatibility issues lies with your choice of motherboard. Your motherboard has LGA 1366 CPU socket and can only take CPU's that supports that socket. The Intel E8500 is only LGA 775.

The RAM you will need with that motherboard is DDR3 RAM as it doesn't support DDR2.

I'm also not familiar with XCLIO but I always recommend Corsair, Silverstone, Antec, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling for power supply as these companies make better quality PSUs than others.

Also, do you really need that sound card? I usually only recommend it if you're an audiophile but considering you only selected a cheap 5.1 speaker, buying a sound card would be a waste. Try the on-board first and see if you like it (many does because it has been improved for the past few years) so that you don't waste your money on something you might not even need.

3 x GTX 260 is a waste of money in my opinion, I say save your money now and buy 1 or 2 video cards and then a few years from now, upgrade to a better one. I can guarantee that in a few years, there will be a single GPU that will outperform your tri-SLI'd GTX 260. Also, a few games don't scale too well on SLI or tri-SLI and usually reverts to just using one of your card or sometimes just don't work at all.

Thanks Kamille .

1) I have a $3000.00 budget.
2) I will be using the computer for the basic college work like typing papers and what not and also playing alot demanding games online.
3) I'm not sure yet if I will be overclocking (it seems like it's more than likely I will be) because my Uncle, a computer wiz, said he would build the computer for me, but I haven't heard from him in 2-3 weeks since he said he would constuct the computer. At this point, I've been killing my school anxieties by surfing newegg :). Overclocking won't be a problem for him if you recommend it.
4) The monitor can always be swapped out if you think there's a better alt. I picked it because the contrast ratio was 10000:1 and the refresh rate was 2ms.

I wouldn't have had any clue about the CPU and mother board haha. Thank you. What if I switch to this motherborad:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813128359

I could keep my CPU.. I think? And I could use 4x DDR2 RAM cards.
And it says it has onboard LAN; Realtek 8111C - Max LAN Speed: 10/100/1000Mbps. Does that mean I can get away with not getting a network card?

I'll take a look at Corsair, Silverstone, Antec, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling. I honestly don't think I even looked at powers supplies; I think the XCLIO was at -$120 in a bundle and I was a sucker and put it in my cart.

Thanks for the sound card tip. I said that myself and my older brother said, "I think you always need a sound" and in fear that my sys wouldn't work I grabbed something :/.

I want a beastly video card and I'd like to be playing some of the most demanding games of today (and hopefully the games of the next year or two) on the highest settings. It'll hopefully be a gaming computer that will blow away all my friends' $900 gaming computers.

What do you think I should do buildwise?
Swithcing up everything including CPU and motherboard LGA styles isn't a problem.
My current situation: I have $3000.00 to spend on an insanely fast PC that makes games look awesome. I have no preferences other than it makes jaws drops and other gaming computers look like they're powered by hamsters in wheels. :)

For this budget, you'd definitely be going for an i7 build. The i7's fit into the LGA1366 package.

We'll wait and see what Kamille cooks up for you. :)

Thanks for the extremely helpful input . I spent all day surfing and trying to understand compatibilities between computer parts and I took advice from both of you mates and think I'm a little closer to a more compatible build.

Hi cjbranden,

Your build looks much better now :)

A few things I would change.

The processor costs way too much money, I suggest going with the Core i7 920 processor and overclock it. The only difference is the multi and the speed (2.66 vs 2.93). Get an aftermarket cooler as well and overclock it, you can probably reach between 3.2 - 4.0 GHz with the 920 CPU (of course each CPU is made differently hence the big gap on how far it can reach). However, since Core i7 is new, Newegg doesn't really have anything decent for an aftermarket cooler. Maybe someone can chime in and suggest something.

This is a personal preference, my brother got this Samsung 22" monitor and it looks awesome. It may be only 5ms but you won't see the difference between 5ms and 2ms.

For the power supply, as I've mentioned before, I don't trust that brand so I recommend either the Corsair 1000W (modular PSU) or Silverstone 1000W. These are also cheaper than the XCLIO.

For the DVD-drive, I usually recommend this Samsung 22X drive.

The computer case is also personal preference, just want you to know that these two cases are very popular and are very nice.
Antec Twelve Hundred
Coolermaster HAF 932

And how about this Logitech G51 speaker?

Hope that helps.

Awesome. Thank for the extremely appreciated help. I switched to the Antec case you suggested (much cheaper, better reviews, better cooling, and all fans have convenient wash-able filters/screens, a corsair 1000w PSU, and a i7 2.66ghz CPU that I'll hopefully overclock. Thanks for the suggestions! i think my build is a lot more solid. I also found a list of i7 LGA1366 compatible CPU coolers:

Red Sea LGA-1366

Thermalright - all Ultra series, HR-01 Plus, HR-01 4U, HR-01 3U and Ultima 90.

Noctua - All coolers. Free upgrades to LGA1366 brackets for current Noctua heatsink owners.

Scythe - All coolers. Brackets will be sold separately and parts supporting LGA1366 will be given a 'Rev. B' addition to the name. The new Mugen 2 will suport LGA1366 from the get go

Thermaltake - V1 and Big Typhoon VX will be updated with LGA1366 support. All Thermaltake water cooling ('LCS') will be updated for LGA1366 support. No confirmation of being able to buy the brackets separately but the new brackets have been given individual part numbers (A100069 for V1 and A100070 for Big Typhoon VX) so I would presume they will be made available separately.

Coolermaster - The V8 will have LGA1366 compatibility (should be in Aus @ Rectron in the next container due in about four weeks) and the Aquagate Max is being updated for LGA1366 with a likely revamp of the water block used - details were sketchy but it was mentioned it needs the block needs to be redesigned.

ASUS - Triton 81 cooler.

Nexus - FLC-3000 cooler

I'm torn between:

Nexus FLC-3000 Cooler
http://www.nexustek....at_an_angle.htm

and the

Coolermaster v8.
http://www.coolermas...u...ail&id=5279

The Coolermaster v8 has multiple, thorough, positive reviews and has very good cooling but it is 1.9lbs. The Nexus FLC-3000 is half the weight, is set at a 30 degree angle so air flows over the motherboard, but has no reviews describing performance whatsoever. My first choice is actually liquid cooling, but I'm not sure if liquid cooling does the job of an aftermarket CPU cooler... does it? My 2nd choice is the Coolmaster v8, but I'm not sure if hanging almost 2lbs from my mobo is bad for it :/. My third choice is the FLC-3000 because of the 30 degree tilt that draws air over the mobo and it's lighter (it's also much quieter but being discrete isn't one of my concerns :)). Any advice? I'm sorry I don't have links for ALL the CPU coolers. At one point, I found a list with links to all the CPU coolers' specs, but can't seem to find it now :). I am hoping you say Liquid Cooling for CPUs works great haha, but I'd rather have the honest truth and get the best cooling for my PCU. A lot if i7 reviews say they run hot and the last thing I want is something burning out :/. Thanks!
