I bought 2 new hard drive in the past week (a 500 gig, a 1000 gig) and I can not get windows to detect either one. I want to use one as a bootable drive. My current drive is 20 gig.

I have win xp w/sp 2
What can I do?

Windows will not recognize a hard drive that isn't formatted. Go to Start, right-click on MyComputer, choose Manage.

In the Computer Management window, select Disk Management. There you should see the drives labled as "raw"... meaning they are not formatted.

You can do two things...
Go to the manufacture website and download/use their utility to format the drives.
Install Windows and during the install, format the drive.
