Vista x86/x64 .... I understand, no, not understand :help: but am aware that 32 & 64 are legit, but what is this 86 ? what does it mean? please ....

and also

I've been having problems lately, installing a usb a/v capture stick (videomate C200) + a usb 2.0 DVR guardian (usb digital video recording surveilance system) (swann) and tv camera observation system - colour security camera with audio (swann) ...... seriously, what I was given to understand was so simple, has left me more confused - nothing has done what it supposed to :) :) I laugh but I am really very frustrated ....

Anyone willing to get involved in solving/helping with this problem ..... I understand any reluctance, because it really scares the [bleep] out of me frustration-wise

Thnx guys

All computer processors have one "granddaddy" - Intel 8086
Older computers processors belonged to 16-bit x86-16 family.
Newer ones (what we mostly use now) are from 32-bit x86-32 family.
The newest ones are 64-bit x86-64 (also called x64).

So, not really correctly, but by common understanding, when you see x86, it refers to 32-bit, and when you see x64, it refers to 64-bit.

Typical confusion for the 'ordinary' guy! I hate it when these big companies & etc take advantage of the novices/aged/ and learners! because that leaves the door open for people/companies to take advantage of and abuse the system, at the expense of the ignorant - and that makes me so MAD ....

But now please, :) back to my security problem .... which is the important part of this post

I don't know much about security cameras, but you're really not saying much what the problem is.

Well the idea was to set up a surveilance camera (on my PC) to veiw my lounge and front door, using my hard drive.
I got from Dick Smith Electronics the following:

Swann USB DVR Guardian Surveillance System
Simply plugs into your PC via USB and then allows you to connect up to 4 surveillance cameras and record the footage onto your Desktop PC or Notebook. Cost-effective solution to replace a commercial VCR tape recorder.

View and record up to 4 cameras on your PC or Notebook
4 Channel USB 2.0 DVR Guardian Surveillance System for the home and office
Cost-effective solution to replace a commercial VCR tape recorder
Supports Motion, Schedule, or Manual operation.
Video image can be viewed on your computer and manages the recorded data with a date and time index.
Easy to use graphical user interface.
Max display and record rate: 25 fps (PAL)
Use the USB 2.0 DVR Guardian with existing security cameras or additional cameras to suit your security needs.
Camera inputs: 4 x Composite video RCA
Protect and monitor loved ones and deter thieves.

also

SWANN Colour TV Camera System
Complete DIY (Do-It-Yourself) colour camera kit
Simple "plug and play" into a TV, VCR, or video monitor
Advanced high quality colour lens
Comes with colour camera, cable, and power

and a VideoMate C200 USB a/v capture stick.

...and the problem is?

Firstly, I have to keep re-installing the driver of usb video capture video-mate C200 - :) - oh woe!

can't seem to load driver/software for usb 2.0 DVR Guardian, it doesn't seem to d/l correctly, the folder remains empty and the codecs don't seem to be there either!

I have tried the website to d/l latest drivers/software, I get an error message:

"An error occurred while copying file PCDVR.INF
Cannot copy file to destination - click retry or cancel"

On retry the message just comes up again! on cancel it says 'you want to continue without this file'? If I say yes it finishes with the message 'install failed'

So from all that, I don't even know if my surveilance camera works :)

I'd either contact hardware/software maker, or just simply return the [bleep] thing.

:) :)

I managed to extricate this info from another relevant file! It's all a great deal of garbage to me, but then I'm a confessed ignoramous :help: but seriously, when it comes to computer technology, and/or software installations i'm way off! I just trust what's given (discs etc: ) this leaves me dead, but you guys will no doubt have a good laugh at me, cause it'll be so easy for you to comprehend what it's saying, gee, I jolly well hope so ....

The only thing, that turns on my attention is this:

"An error occurred while copying file PCDVR.INF
Cannot copy file to destination - click retry or cancel"

ErrorReportURL=http://www.installshield.com/isetup/ProErrorCentral.asp?ErrorCode=%d : 0x%x&ErrorInfo=%s

If you don't have any problems installing other applications, the above means, that either installation CD is bad, or there is something wrong with installation program itself.
In any case, as I said before, contact manufacturer, or return the thing.
