Opened my email today in outlook express 6 and all my emails from the past 18 months are gone. The last email was from June of 2007. Last night my husband was screwing around with my email trying to set up an account for himself and might have changed some kind of default. He went from the start menu to set programs and access button and must have changed something. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks,

Karen

Hi Karen,

Are the mails missing from the same folder and do any remain in it? Which folder?
Also, do you have the SP2 update installed and have you recently compacted messages?

It is all folders. Actually some folders that I deleted long ago (pertaining to a job that I no longer do) have reappeared. It is like my email just went back in time 18 months, anything I have saved since then is gone. Everything is dated June 07 and before. My address book however, is current. There are addresses that I added two weeks ago that are in there.

I do not know if I have the update you are talking about and I did try compacting my messages last night but it didn't work.

Check your Recycle bin for BAK files. Those are backups that are created when OE compacts.
Because you just tried compacting, you've likely created a new set of BAK's, so it may be a bit confusing sorting out what was already there and what is new, but for now just see if you have a couple sets of BAK files.
