I am trying to install the program xampp and make it work, but it is impossible to get it started. I follow the exact steps till the end, but when I type www.localhost/test/ the link never works. I'm really in need of getting this program work, searched everywhere, but i can't figure what I'm doing wrong :)(

My steps:

-download xampp for wondows 1.6.8 and install it (checked apache and mysql)
- create the folder 'test' in the folder htdocs
- download from joomla.org latest version
- copied all the files from joomla in the folder 'test' created in htdocs
- enter www.localhost/test in my browser........tried both Explorer and Mozzila, none works. Looked for tips on the net, nothing...I can't make it work.

Does it make any difference where I install xampp? Does it have to be in default path C: or can it also be somewhere else?
I tried stopping the firewall and the antivirus..no difference.

Please help!

suggestion: open your browser and just enter http://localhost/test
by entering the www your system is trying to find www.localhost.com.

alternatively you could type in http://127.0.0.1/test

OMG! It worked!
Thanks so much, I could think for ages and wouldn't realise it was a simple thing like this.
Actually I noticed it was adding .com when the search ended.

Thanks again :)
