Hello!
For a few months I have not been able to connect my mobile Nokia to the computer anymore. I have bought a new connection cable thinking it was the problem, reinstalled the Nokia PC suite, but seems the problem isn't here. I really don't know what to do anymore. :)

I have recently done a scan with DriverAgent and several of my drivers are out of date. I noticed there were also a few problems at the USB mass storage device. With Driver Detective there also appears another problem labeled USB controllers - VIA rev5 or later, that appears correct in the other scan.

Not directly connected, but I would also be grateful if you could help me update the VIA AC'97 Enhanced audio controller, I couldn't find this driver anywhere.

Hello,
Before we can help you, you need to list the manufacture and model number of you computer, if you know it. Or the make and model of the motherboard.

Go to Start> run... type in devmgmt.msc and see if there are any yellow or red marks showing up.

Hello,
Thanks for the info on the Motherboard.

Did you run Device manager? Any yellow or red marks?

Ok, thanks.

Do you have any problems connecting with any other USB devices other than your Nokia?

As far as I've noticed, no. The printer sometimes doesn't work immediately, but this may be something else.

When I connect my mobile phone, it makes the sound of connection and then the sound of disconnection. This made me think there's a problem at the contact made there at the back...or with the drivers.

Funny thing is on my mobile it appears "data transfer on its way" when I connect the cable, but on the computer nothing is detected. I then try connecting from the program of Nokia, but still it keeps searching forever.

Does the printer act the same way... it first connects, then disconnects? I guess what I'm trying to find out is if your USB controller requires reinstallation. I hate to recommend reinstalling drivers if they are not required... although, manufatures drivers shouldn't harm anything.

Since the printer is always connected it wasn't really noticeable till now, cos once it connects it seems to stay that way. But as I plug in and out the usb cable for the printer, I notice something. Sometimes it makes just the connection sound. Other times it makes connect-disconnect-connect, very quickly. Some sockets also seem better than others. Maybe there's also a circuit problem there cause of the pins where connection is made, I can't tell.

Ok...

It could be some socket are getting worn, or maybe the USB controller on the motherboard itself is bad. At this point, it's hard to tell. However, since you mentioned problems with the USB Mass Storage device, and also your Audio problems, I'm going to recommend you try reinstalling some drivers.

Go HERE. This is the ECS website for the motherboard you specified. Download and install the Via Service Pack (4 in 1) driver. After you install it, restart your computer.

Then, download and install the VIA USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver version 2.54 (there are two USB drivers... although the dates appear to be messed up, or ECS is messed up... as the higher revision has an older date). After installing, restart your computer.

Then, download the RealTek Codec Sound on board driver and install it. Restart your computer.

Let me know if you experience any problems with any of these or if you still cannot connect your Nokia.

Hi!

I installed the first update and everything seemed ok.
But when I tried to install VIA USB 2.0 Host controller it blocks. The installation screen appears, tells to close all programs, but then nothing more happens and it freezes.

There is also a release note that says about some problems I think:

Especially this:

8) Known Issues/Limitations:

a) VIA USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver -
Limitation:
1. Only USB wakeup from S3 (by mouse or keyboard) is supported. Of course,
your system BIOS should support/enable this function First.
Issues:
2. If some specific USB devices are plugged in, you may NOT Hibernate or
Shutdown the system.
3. If you connect a USB 2.0 hub to the root hub and continue to plug some
USB devices into this hub. The system would be hung with some specific
USB devices or these USB devices might not be recognized.

Does it mean it only works for mouse and keyboard and if I install it it won't recognize something else?
Should I unplug certain USB devices when running it (I guess besides mouse, keyboard and net connection)?

Here's the full note:

I have to appologize! I think I'm getting too old for this! Either that, or I don't know! :)

I pointed you to the wrong Host Controller. The ver 2.54 is NOT for XP. The version you need is 2.44. Please use VIA USB 2.0 Host controller ver 2.44

Sorry again!

Hi! No problem. I tried the 2.44 version for XP, but when I press setup.exe it unzips the file and then nothing happens. With the first version the start screen appeared, but with this nothing. :)

The other 2 drivers are installed and working.

I tried again connecting my phone. It seems to mostly make just the connection sound, but then there may be some software problem also...I can't realise. On the phone appears "you want to use the phone for data storage?", when I check yes it starts storing forever, when I say no then appears "data accesory connected". Makes connection sound, but then nothing happens. Appears unconnected in the Nokia PC suite and when using the connection expert still nothing happens. Before I remember I just connected the cable and the program presented the phone as "connected".

Also if this doesn't work, could I use a bluetooth or infrared connection? It detected Bluetooth(Microsoft), but when I click next it says to check the hardware, software and driver settings.

Sometimes files will unzip to a destination, but will not install until the user goes to the location the files unzipped to and launches the Setup application. If you know where the file unzipped, go there and look for "setup" or "install" and doubleclick the file. The app should then install. If you are unsure where the files unzipped, just unzip them again and see if the location is revealed... however, dont actually unzip them again.

It seems your phone is connecting to your computer just fine, or else the app wouldn't recognize it. You might have to change some setting somewhere in you application to do things with the phone. I don't know what phone application you're using, so can you tell me the name and I'll try to look up more information.

I have no idea if you have bluetooth or not. Did you check device manager to see if there is a Bluetooth entry. If there is no entry, then you don't have bluetooth on your computer. Go to Start>run... type in devmgmt.msc ... look through the Device manager window for a Bluetooth entry.

As for infrared, I can't help you with this as I don't know much about it. You might read your computer manual to see if you even have it.
