Hi,

My computer is very slow to make a start after I connect to the internet. It waits a long time to log me into Yahoo Messanger and after I do get logged on, again I have to wait a long time until I can click on IE or whatever else I want to do. It seems like it's doing something in the background.

I have no idea where to look or what the problem might be.

Also the iexplore.exe could not be ended.

Could someone please, please, please help me.

I could not get a log file as such. I couldn't even get to the 15 messages or could not even do a copy and paste of the actual pandasoftware scanning window.

I just wanted to make a note that it looks like the computer has started to work faster again (just like that, out of the blue).

However, I encountered another problem. That is, every so often I cannot connect to the internet and I'm getting an error (Error 718) I cannot remember the rest of the message but in order to get it going again I have to uninstall and then install again "networking services". Can you think of a reason why it keeps comming up with this problem/error? Can it be fixed for good?

A while back I performed a scan using "xoftspy" and it detected a"trojan" (registry key type, it's vendor being trojan.admincash) But since I did not purchase the XoftSpy software I cannot get rid of it. So far I've tried a number of other programs but could not detect this trojan. What should I do?

Please let me know what I should do next.

Hi,

I've run CleanUP, ewido and performed the fix. No viruses or anything of the sort has been found. But my computer has started to act weird again. From the time I get connected to the internet until the time I can use the computer it takes 10 -15 min. During this time my PC is frozen. During this time I tried to open up IE window and after a short wait it came back with a long error message. Here is part of it:"http/oca.microsoft.com/resredir.aspx?sid+733&Bucket=0xDL ......... Colud not be found" . I did a Ctrl+Alt+Del and it did not repond. After the 10-15 min wait everything I clicked on or requested appeared on the screen( i.e. IE windows, internet connection status, WIndows task manager, etc).

Also I run XoftSpy program and it still found that admin.trojan item. I think it says that it is a Registry key ???!!!!!???.

I don't understand what's going on.

Can it be possible that my PC is performing so poorly and that I'm having so many problems with it because the actual hardware in it could be of a poor quality??? I bought the PC (brand new) August last year from a computer shop but at that time I thought that I got it for such a great price. But now I'm just thinking what if the parts weren't of a good quality, thus all this problems. In the past I had to reformat my drive many times because the comp froze and couldn't get back into it.

Could also playing games on the computer affect it in any way???

Hi thatman,

I have even more problems now.

Whilst playing online backgammon, after a while the computer started going all wierd. For the simplest move made playing, the PC was churning away like there was no tomorrow. I had to turn it off because it just wasn't moving, and after we got back to the game it still wasn't performing well. It was very slow during the game and even when I was accessing other sites via IE.

At one point in time it came back with an error message saying:

"Generic Host Process for Win32 encountered a problem......." and it had to close the IE window (I think!!). The file associated with this error was the
szAppName: svchost.exe.

I also unistalled ewido program because that was slowing my comp down as it was starting up. I just could not take it anymore.

It is still slow and I have to wait too long to be able to use the computer after I connect to the internet.

It seems like the comp. it's getting itself in a cycle of doing something in the background.

Please HELP. It is driving me crazy.

Hello ,

I have run the fix and after connecting to the internet I could move freely on the internet and on my PC. IT'S FIXED. Surfing on the net is faster and also I'm not getting error message of the kind that it could not find the web page requested (or something of the sort).

MANY THANKS TO YOU AND YOUR HELP IS VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

There're still some lose ends here and there. After I run the fix, whenever I turned on the PC it came with a message "Generic Host Process for Win32 has encountered a problem and it needs to close". Then when I dialed my ISP connection it gave me the following error: Network Connections: Cannot delet saved password. Error 621 The system could not open the phonebook file" . When I dialed the second time it connected OK.

The following time, before I connected to internet I retyped my password and it went OK not having to try a second time to work. Since then I'm not getting the Generic Host Process for WIn32 message and I connect OK. Hopefully they won't come back to bite me.

Also I've delete KAV Personal 5.0 (antivirus program used from a previous fix you recomended). It seemed that it was slowing the PC down as it was loading everything up at startup. I've installed my VET.

For some reason at start up the PC it's not working as fast a before. It's still churning away for about 2 min until it comes up with the ISP connection window. (I have it set up in the startup folder to come up automatically).

Hi,

I fixed the two lines detected by HJT (I've also deleted another line where it had something to do with Skype, a program which I have uninstalled in the past).

Now, please excuse my ingnorance but how do I disable this on windows startup
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe.

The computer is not behaving itself. There's still something wrong because yesterday it slowed down again and today I got disconnected from internet and I got a window message "The system has recovered from a serious error......" and it asked me if I want to send the error report to Microsoft.

I'll include a HJT.log just in case you can see something else wrong with my system.

Hi,

I've fixed the two lines with HJT, but I have not defragmented my hard drive yet. I need to resolve a couple of problems first.

Could you please help me with three more issues?

1) From time to time I cannot connect to the internet the first time I click on the connect button. It gives me an error message "Network Connections: Cannot delet saved password. Error 621 The system could not open the phonebook file".
If I try again it works. How can I fix it?

2) Again, from time to time, the little monitors from the task bar, which indicate that I'm connected to the internet and how long I've been connected for, dissappear and I cannot get them back for that internet session. Can this be fixed?

3)Could you please guide me on what I have to do to delete a program that I tried to install (Acrobat Reader 7.0), but it froze in the middle of the installation and now I cannot get rid of it.

Now it does not appear to be an installed program in the Control Panel > Add/Remove programs window. It does not have an uninstall option and if i just want to delete the entire folder it gets to a point where it's saying that AcroIEHelper.dll is being used by another program (eventhough I have nothing else running at that time) and it stops deleting the folder. ????!!!!!????? I tried to install it again but my PC freezes in the middle of the installation (I believe at about the same point it happened before).

I just want to have the peace of mind that I fixed as many problems as I can on this computer. So I would really appreciate it if you could help me (please).

Hi,

I forgot to tell you that yesterday I uninstalled Acrobat 5. After that I tried to delete the Acrobat 7.0 but because I did not turn off the PC probably that AcroIEHelper.dll file was still residing somewhere so it was seen to be used by another program.

Today when I tried to delete the Acrobat 7 folder it came up with this message:
" Cannot delete pdfshell.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not urrently in use". It looks like the whole folder and subfolders are write protected. I tried to unclick the read-only box (under folder properties) but it won't stay unclicked.

I don't know what else to do.
