hello -

yesterday i believe that i picked up a virus somehow. after being prompted to reboot due to recent updates, windows will not start and it is stuck on the black screen with a blinking cursor. it will not respond to any of the function buttons and beeps when you push any button.

i believe that it is xp home, but for some reason i have xp pro disc (maybe my work laptop disk). after putting in the windows disk and trying to recover the installation, i ran chkdsk /r and it took forever. restarted and no difference. ran chkdsk again.

what should i do next?
thanks for your help!
