we had an unexpected power failure in our home and now when i turn on computer a black screen appears with no icon or start menue but when i go into safe mode with networking my computer runs can any one tell me what happened and why i can only use computer in safe mode with net working I TRIED SYSTEM RESTORE AND LAST GOOD CONFIGURATION

i have done that and even installed a fresh copy of xp but still black screen

try reinstalling your video card drivers...
