Following is my HiJack This! log. I have followed all of the directions listed in the 'Before you post a Hijack This log' message. I have also followed a procedure I found in an earlier thread (that I cannot now find), that involved booting to safe mode and removing Viewpoint software and various directories.

I have attempted (per this procedure) to remove the first entry in the Hijack This log (an R0 regarding starting homepage). However, a scan run immediately after (or after a reboot) shows the R0 still there. I was able to remove other R0s successfully.

This log refers to a few pieces of inhouse software used at my company, and I will verify, if necessary, whether a given piece of software listed is valid.

My computer is connected to the internet through my company network, which does have a proxy server and hardware firewall in place. I believe that the trojan (if it is one) that caused this problem was attached to a website (although I am not entirely certain which one, since I don't know this virus's incubation period). I am obviously concerned by its ability to enter through our firewall, and am hoping to find a fix for when one of our other users (inevitably) catches it.

I am in the IT department at my company, as a Computer Help Desk person. I am running a fully up-to-date Norton Antivirus client, with a definition file dated 05-04-2005. A forced scan does not detect the stealth.Hjack virus (again, if that is what it is). Ad-Aware SE caught quite a few things, but has been unsuccessful at removing this virus. SpyBot is similarly unable to clean it.

I can be reached at [email protected] or at [email protected].

The following is my current HiJack This log:

This has now been resolved by running the Ewido AV scanner. It is actually the Trojandownloader.warspy.g virus.

Thank you,
Michael Sasser
