I contracted this virus last night. Complete with the Blue screen desktop and Yellow triangle Trey Icon that sprouts popups.
I've had trouble getting removal instructions. You guys seem to be the only place anywhere offering any kind of solid help for this thing.

This just seemed to pop onto my computer I didn't have a window open or anything running but AOL. (Virus protection my a$$!) While previous viruses I've had all happened because of a users itchy click finger.

I've run McAfee and Ad-Aware SE personal but neither seemed to notice it.

I'm relatively new to computers but I've been a fast learner and I'm confident I can get this off my computer with some instruction and patience.

Any help would be most awesome. Thanks!

Here's my log

Download and Save Spywadfix to your computer from this link:
http://www.thespykil...s/spywadfix.exe.

It will automatically extract to c:\spywad where it needs to be to run and will automatically open the remove spywad.vbs script for you ready to paste in the line mentioned below.
If you have script blocking enabled you will get a warning about a malicious script wanting to run. Please allow this script to run.

It is not malicious.
It will open an Input box. Paste this line into the box

C:\bsw.exe

The script will kill that process, backup and then delete any matching files in System32 and your Windows Directory. It will create a log of all files deleted. This log file will be named Spywad.txt and be located inside the C:\Spywad Folder. The backups will also be located in two subfolders there. One named Systems and the other named Window.

The script will search the Windows Directory and delete desktop.html and popup.html if they exist. It will add entries to the log if these files are found and deleted.

It will then kill Explorer. You will lose your taskbar and desktop. It will repair the registry entries returning your windows default desktop and context menu functions.
It will restart Explorer.

Finally, it will Run hijackthis. Close it for now and follow the advise in my next post.

You don't have to do anything. If it did, the program did this by itself.

I take it
c:\documents and settings\the matrix has you!\local settings\
the text in bold is your accountname.

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
Security IGuard
Virtual Maid
Search Maid
WinTools
Error Guard
Press ‘delete this item’.
Press ‘back’

***

Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press ‘open process manager’
Select the process, press ‘kill process’ (and repeat this if necessary):
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Pass\MediaPassK.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Pass\MediaPass.exe
C:\wp.exe
C:\wp.bmp
C:\Windows\sites.ini
C:\Windows\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wldr.dll
C:\Windows\System32\helper.exe
C:\Windows\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Windows\System32\msmsgs.exe
C:\Windows\System32\ole32vbs.exe
C:\Windows\system32\msole32.exe
Press 'back' and 'scan'

***

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

"The Matrix Has You" is my nephews desktop. I'm not even on it. Strange.

None of the programs (Security IGuard ect.) That you mentioned were on my programs list.

And upon attempting to kill the processes you specified, most weren't there, including C:/wp. Which I've read is the culprit for the blue screen.
Several of them showed up again at the bottom of the list immediately after they were killed.

I stopped after that didn't work.

Awaiting further instructions. :tazz:

Ok, rebooting in safe mode didn't seem to help any. None of the programs or processes I'm supposed to get rid of even showed up in safe mode. I made sure all files were showing in the folder options.

This is everything that showed up in safe mode. >LINK<

This is everything that shows up in normal mode. (problems from your list are highlighted) >LINK<

And still they return immediately when I hit "Kill process"

Here's everything on my HijackThis "Uninstall_list." None of the programs I'm supposed to delete are there...

Sorry about the links, I didn't even think of that.

Win-dh and Windows SA were deleted.

I appreciate your help, you're really a godsend, but I've been up with this for 36 hours now and if I don't get some sleep I won't make it in to work. lol

Thanks again! I'll be back.

Ok, I'll be checking back periodically today. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to help me with this.

I was researching a bit and found that "bsw.exe" is a culprit in this thing. I found it on my C drive but haven't deleted it yet for fear of making a mistake.

Here's a fresh log

Oke, let's try again.

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions! Some entries, folders or files may already be gone as we get to them in this advise. Just move on and follow the advise through.

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press the button ‘open uninstall manager’
In the list find:
Media Pass
Press ‘delete this item’.
Press ‘back’
Close HijackThis.

***

Download Hoster
Unzip it to a convenient place and open the program.
Choose "Restore Original Hosts" and press "OK".
Close the program.

***

Download: deldomains.
To use: right-click and select: Install (no need to restart)
Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

*** *Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.
***

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
***

Open HijackThis
Go to ‘config’
Go to ‘misc tools’
Press ‘open process manager’
Check to see if any of these processes are still active.
Select the process, press ‘kill process’ (and repeat this if necessary):
C:\WINDOWS\System32\msole32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\popuper.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\intmonp.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Pass\MediaPassK.exe
C:\Program Files\Media Pass\MediaPass.exe
C:\bsw.exe

press ‘back’ and 'scan'.

***

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

***

Download this scanner:
ewido.
Install it and doubleclick the icon on your desktop.
Let it update.
Then, let it do a full run, and copy the log. Past it to a blank Notepad file and save it to post here.
Than let it rerun. Save that log too.

Post back here with a fresh log using HijackThis and both scan results.

I got all the way to step three before running into a problem! haha. I'm so much trouble. :tazz:

The problem:

I downloaded Deldomains.inf onto my desktop, but... when I right click to install it, there is no "Install" Option on my menu anywhere.

Can you show me how to fix this, or maybe how to run deldomains.inf from a command prompt?

Please download this file:
http://www.kellys-ko.../infinstall.reg

Doubleclick the file and grant permission to add it to the Registry.

Then proceed with the deldomain and move on.
