I am new to this forum. I read how to configure Ad-Aware and run a scan and post the log to this website for help. This is my last hope before I have to format my hard drive. I've tried Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy and can't get rid of pop ups such as ad1.searchmiracle.com & ads1.revenue.net & search inqwire and other Microsoft Internet Explorer pop up windows. My DSL connection is super slow. This happens even when I am using Mozilla Firefox as a browser. I haven't downloaded Hijack This. I was following your instructions under Step one: Scanning for Spyware/Adware.

Please HELP!!

richardlaura,
please can you clear out your cache folder ie: temporary internet folder There are some free programs that you can use that will do that for you if needed like :tazz:
CCleaner also
please can you make sure that you still have “Ticks by these :
"Unload recognized processes during scanning",
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
to do this Open Ad-aware SE
Click “settings” (the Gear)
then Click “Tweaks“,
then click “Scanning Engine”
Tick ."Unload recognized processes during scanning"
Then Click “Cleaning Engine”
And Tick
"Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
then Click “proceed”.
now use the WebUpDate
(to make sure you are upto date) if you want to clean your PC then scan by doing a "Full Scan" then and once the scan has finished
mark and remove the items then Reboot (ie: Re-start your PC)
Then re-scan doing a "Full Scan" and then post your logfile here by using the Add-Reply Feature .

Please NOTE from the AAW SE help file, if you set "Read current settings from system:" under "default settings" in Ad-Aware SE,

Default IE Pages
Default homepage: Ad-Aware SE uses the defined homepage when recovering from a browser hijack

Default Search Engine: Ad-Aware SE uses the defined search engine when recovering from a browser hijack

ok Can you post us the log file after you have done the cleaning and then can you please download
HijackThis
After you have downloaded it and Unzipped it, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".
When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and then can you please post you Logfile in the
HijackThis Logs forum.

Please follow the instructions located in Step Five: Posting a Hijack This Log. Post your HJT log as a reply to this thread, which has been relocated to the Malware Removal Forum for providing you with further assistance.

Kindly note that it is very busy in the Malware Removal Forum, so there may be a delay in receiving a reply. Please also note that HJT logfiles are reviewed on a first come/first served basis.

*Click Here to download Killbox by Option^Explicit.
*Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
*In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
* Select this file to be deleted:
C:\windows\system32\eliteart32.exe
Press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it after each one. When it asks if you would like to delete on reboot, press the YES button, when it asks if you want to reboot now, press the YES button. If you recieve an error message "PendingRenameOperation...." and your computer doesn't restart, please restart it manually.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

Run HijackThis.
Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\eliteart32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [The Intranet] intranet.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [The Intranet] intranet.exe

Reboot back to normal and post a new HijackThis log.

Dear Pieter,

I did everything that you said. Here is my new Hijack This log. NOTE: I just ran Spybot Search & Destroy and it found Elitum.EliteBar. It keeps coming back even after Spybot says it is fixed. ALSO, I ran Ad-Aware and it found Ebates MoneyMaker. I also keeps coming back even after Ad-Aware removes it.

Copy the part below into notepad and save it as stubborn.reg

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LQ]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ohbbackup]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Elitum]

Reboot into safe mode and doubleclick that file.

Confirm you want to merge it with the registry and run another AdAware scan.

Let me know what it finds.

Dear Pieter,

I merged stubborn.reg as you said. Then I ran an Adaware scan while still in SafeMode. Here is the result. Please keep reading after it because I ran another Adaware scan after restarting in regular mode.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune....oads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads....org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!

Regards,

We'll stop them right away (hopefully)

Please download the Killbox.
Now run Killbox by doubleclicking Killbox.exe and select "Delete on Reboot".
Paste this in the Full path to file to delete box
C:\windows\system32\elitejpd32.exe

Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run TheKillbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try TheKillbox again..

Let the system reboot, but get into Safe Mode by pressing F8 as your computer is booting up. Then select the Safe Mode option.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {ED103D9F-3070-4580-AB1E-E5C179C1AE41} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitejpd32.exe

Now reboot back to normal and post a new HijackThis log.

Here is the new Hijack This log. When I ran Killbox I got this message: PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process! I went ahead and did a reboot anyway. Following is my newest Hijack This log and just FYI I ran WinPatrol and this is in my Startup Programs. ( I disabled anything I didn't recognize)

Do you think we did it????

Laura

p.s. what does L2mfix do?
