A few days ago my anti virus software alerted me that a new virus was found and quarantined called winvsnet.tmp. It was located in my documents and settings temporary files, which I then deleted using disk clean-up. I ran my anti-virus software again and no virus's were found (Trend Micro PC-cillin). The next day I went to use my computer and ads were popping up out of nowhere and then my system crashed and I had the blue screen of death. The only recent programs I installed or downloaded to my machine was the office 2007 trial from the Microsoft website. I don't know where to begin in fixing my machine. I can only run the computer in safe mode to prevent it from crashing - but my virus program does not work in safe mode and I can't uninstall any files either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - all I need from my machine is my photos and a few documents after that I am fine restoring it back to factory settings. I tried to restore it to a previous point but it wouldn’t work.

Thanks!

Hello,
I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
