Internet explorer always opens a new window and redirects the site i click from a search engine. i recently restored my computer with a cd that was given to me by circuit city when i bought it and now every tiome i clikc a link from a search engine it will open a new window and redirect to a site non related to what i selected. i believe i had a virus on it and i believe that my norton i just installed may have caught it but im not posative. also i dont know if this is related or not but my hard drives are being recognized as auto play.

ok its now 6 hours after i posted the first half and now my IE will not allow me to go to sites i type in the address bar i had to get on another computer to check for a response on geekstogo. its no longer my c: drive that is telling me it needs to auto play it but my partitioned d drive has the option autoplay in bold under right click. norton tells me that it cant update because of internet conection issues but my computer is telling me it is connected fine so im not sure if this may be a registry error or if when i installed the norton it changed somethign that cause me not to view my webpages. but my d: drive auto play and the redirecting of links in search engines was all befor i installed norton.

I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
