limited wifi connectivity

I have recently bought a toshiba satellite L350-171 laptop and have no problems connecting to the internet at home wirelessly but when i go to my girlfriends house and try to connect to bt openzone, my laptop says i am connected but then disconnects me straight away. I tried diagnosing the problem and it just says it is due to user action. Also i cannot connect to the wifi in my local wetherspoons or at the train station, please help!
