I've had great success with Geeks on solving malware issues so I'm putting the same faith into this site for some computer issues. I hope this is the right place to post this.

I take a lot of photos and I know a lot of my memory is taken up with that. I've installed 2 new memory cards so am maxed out on memory to add. My system didn't seem to gain much when I did that, however, and is still very slow. Out of a total of 145 GB, I have only 37.2 GB available. Is there something I'm missing or am I really that maxed out on memory? Is there a way to see what's using it properly and what is "wasting it"? Any information on cleaning up and/or tweaking my system for better performance would be appreciated.

Well u dont need an HJT log unless its in the HJT forum. And I think your confusing RAM with HDD space. You need a bigger hard drive or a secondary hard drive to add more space. Adding RAM wont do anything.

You're right - I am getting the 2 confused! So with my hard drive, is there a way to see what is taking up the most memory? How do I go about adding memory to my hard drive? And is it worth it! I'm trying to limp my machine along because we can't invest right now in a new one but I still want to perform my photo tasks. I've run all the hardware clean-up, defragmenting, files deletion tasks and it is still major full. What would you suggest as a next step?

Thanks so much!

Get DriveSpacio: http://www.drivespac...m/download.html
It'll show you exactly, where your hard drive space goes.
145GB is not a small hard drive, but you can obviously move some data off of it.
Pictures, for instance...you can use external hard drive, which would be the best option. DVDs/CDs will work, as well.

Please bear with me I will try and teach you what is what.

You are still getting RAM and Harddrive mixed up.

Your harddrive is what stores programs, files, songs, pictures etc the list goes on. Your harddrive has SPACE not RAM. If you have any unnecessary files or programs on your harddrive that you never use you can delete them and free up some space.

RAM is random access memory, your programs etc uses the Ram to run but RAM is not a permanent storage only temporary. The information is lost when you turn off your pc.

So what you need if you cant find any programs or files you want to delete to free up space on the HARD DRIVE, you will need to buy a brand new HARD Drive as a secondary storage drive.

Just buy another Hard Drive and have someone hook it up for you if you are not comfortable doing it as you have to open up your case and hook it up correctly. Many people with Computers run out of hard drive space and they go and buy another one or 2+ depending on what they want or do..

You will be fine with 1 new hard drive if you think you will eventually run out of Hard Drive space. Hard Drives are so cheap now that I recommend just going with a 200gb at least as you probably wont even need that big of one you get more for your money going for the 200gb+ hard drives. The smaller hard drives cost only dollars less so while you are already spending lets say $50 for example you might as well spend the extra $10-$20 and double/triple/quadruple your harddrive space. See what I am getting at?

You can also get an external Hard Drive as Broni has said.

Its up to what you want or if you even really need another hard drive.

Try and free up some space before you buy anything though.

Thanks for the input - I've been using "memory" and "space" interchangeably, but what I need is hard drive space. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Now that I can identify what I need it might be easier for me to communicate and achieve my goal here! It is truly appreciated!!!

Now I will download the DriveSpacio as a first step and then look into obtaining another hard drive and/or external hard drive as an inexpensive fix.

Thanks again - I will come back if I have any questions about what things are on my hard drive after running the above program...

Good deal...

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822101137

All you would do is plug the usb cable from this to your pc and thats it..
If you are really in need of more storage that is all you would need IMO but if you spend just $10-$15 more you might can get quite a bit larger HD not that you need larger though.
