Hello: I think I posted this in the wrong forum originally, so I'm reposting it here under Malware, which is what my issue is. Sorry about that. It seems I've been infected with the Prunnet.exe virus, despite running an up-to-date Avast AntiVirus program :) . Internet Explorer is spawning random windows, and popups, and redirecting pages I want to go to, to other pages, as well as other random weird things happening with my computer. So, I started by reading and following the instructions here: Geeks to Go MUST READ THIS.

I ran the ATF Cleaner, but I've been hung up at the System Restore step. I downloaded the program and ran it, but I'm getting the following error message.

I have also downloaded HIJACKTHIS and am ready to post a log when needed, but I was trying to follow the Malware Cleaning Guide first.

Please, I hope someone can help me. My computer has run pretty much flawlessly for me for several years, and this is the first virus I've gotten (having had dial-up only for the last 5 years I'm sure had something to do with it !! :) . But DSL finally just became available in my area and we got it, and a virus along with it within the first week, wouldn't you know.

Thanks to all who read this and might be able to offer help. I will follow-up as things progress.
