computer game download trouble

My computer runs on microsoft windowsxp 2002. I have been trying to play computer games on Yahoo and Game house and other places like that. I download a free 1 hour trial of different games and when I finish the install and click on play the game the game comes up but the graphics are all screwed up and you can play. Why can't I play these games? I am not very tech savvy as a computer user just yet. cathyc
