How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use). Click Here
QUOTE
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend FireFox.
http://www.mozilla.o...oducts/firefox/
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
You can download Sun's newer JVM for Windows at http://java.sun.com/getjava/index.html.

After doing all these, your system will be thoroughly protected from future threats. 8)

After I complete the last few things on your list, how do I get my desktop to go back to normal? During the process of trying to fix my computer, I downloaded alot of stuff. I was wondering if you could tell me which ones I should keep and which ones I can delete. Out of all that I should keep, how often should I run them? Here is a list:

KillBox
CWShredder
TDS-3
CleanUp
Spybot Search and Destroy
Ad-Aware SE Personal
WinPatrol

:tazz: Thank you once again for all your help.

Okay, I did what you said and I got this message box:

Registry Editor
Cannot import C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\DESKTOP.REG: The specified file is not a registry script. You can import only registry files.

So, what now? :tazz:

Thanks for all your help!

When I click on the thing you wanted me to download it tells me that I do not have permission to use this feature. I am logged in so I am not sure what else to do. Thanks again.

Hi april_t_05

Removal Instructions smitfraud

Right-click: HERE and select Save As (in Internet Explorer it's labeled Save Target As) in order to download the Smitfraud.reg file. Save this file to your desktop.

Locate the smitfraud.reg file on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click the YES button. Wait for the "merged
successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

Reboot as normal

Then see if your desktop is working now

You are the best!! :tazz: Thank you so much for all your help. I never would have fixed all this on my own. I do have another question though. I want to upgrade to Windows XP. Do you know a cheap or free way to do this? If you do please let me know. Thank you again for all your help.
