I'm having a problem getting Windows XP to load up completely on my PC.

This is what happens when I switch on my computer:

The black screen with the windows logo and loading bar appear for a while.
Then the screen goes black.
Then the blue welcome screen appears for a brief moment.
Then the screen goes black for a while.
Then the blue welcome screen appears again and after a short moment my user name appears also. When I click my name it comes up for a very short moment that it is 'loading personal setting'. Then the screen flashes black and then the blue welcome screen appears again this time it says it is 'Logging off' and then says 'Saving your settings'. Then it's back just waiting for me to click my name.

Normally I don't need to click my user to get onto the desktop. The desktop appears automatically after the blue welcome screen.

Any help appreciated.

If you have a XP Cd run the Windows Recovery Console
And use the command chkdsk c: /r

I ran Windows Recovery Console and used the command, it completed and it said it found/fixed problems but these had no bearing on my problem - still can't get onto desktop.

There are some other steps, we can try, but we must make sure, your HD is OK, first.
Run diagnostic: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
