Where do I post this? When I turn on in normal it goes to a solid blue screen with nothing on it. When I start up in safe mode after clicking on my name it goes to a black screen with safe mode in all 4 corners. I can't use my DVD. Everything that I do is on here, so I can't lose it. I can go in to Safe Mode with Command Prompt. But I don't know what to do after that.

Did you try to boot from Windows CD, or CD drive is totally inoperable?

Yes, I did try. Nothing happened. CD drive is totally inoperable.
This is what I get:
1) Windows is starting up
2) Welome
3) Blue screen
There is nothing on the blue screen.
When I try to go into safe mode this is what happens
I get a Windows Advanced Options Menue
When I move it to Safe Mode and hit enter this happens
Please select the operating system to start.
I then hit enter
now I get: To begin, click your user name
I click on my name
Now all I get is a black screen with safe mode in all 4 corners
That's all I know what to do.
Now I need help to try and fix it.
Thank youvery much.

Now, wait. How do you know, CD drive is inoperable?Nothing happened. CD drive is totally inoperable
Was it inoperable before, or you say, it's now, because nothing happens, when you put Windows CD in?
Is BIOS set to boot from CD, first?

In BIOS it says: CD-ROM device (not installed)
How can I install it if nothing works??
It was working fine before.
Can I redo something to use the burner as the DVD drive?
Thank you very much.

Open the case. Reseat drive's cables. Try new cables. In BIOS it says: CD-ROM device (not installed)
What burner would that be? Why do you need DVD drive, since you want to use Windows CD?Can I redo something to use the burner as the DVD drive?
Remember, I'm not there, and I can't see your computer.

Tried cables --- nothing
I have a CD-DVD player top tray and a CD-DVD burner below it. It came that way from Dell. Below that is the floppy drive.

I'm not sure. How can I tell?
When I go into BIOS and hit enter on Boot Sequence it shows it.

It's fine, then.
What you can try is to disconnect DVD ROM, and connect both its cables to your DVD burner, and see if BIOS will see it after restart.
