when I attempt to open windows media player 10,
i can hear audio but there is no window open in the desktop
it just remains in the task bar.

what can i do to fix the problem?

when you mouse over it it should expand slightly and give you a box on the right corner for you to click on. when it maximizes you can go into the Tools, options to customize its behavior.

alternative you should be able to double click on the tray to get it to open or right click on it.
