I can't sign-in to windows live, apparently the sign-in assistant is off or not installed - (Oh dilema) :) I get the following message on trying to sign in!

Can't sign in to Windows Live Toolbar
If you're directed to this Help topic when you try to sign in to Windows Live Toolbar with your Windows Live ID (The e-mail address and password
that you use to sign in to Windows Live programs and services such as Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger; Microsoft services such as
Xbox LIVE, ninemsn, and Office Live; and other places where you see the Windows Live ID logo.) , the Windows Live Sign-in Assistant may be turned
off or not installed. Try the following solutions in the order that they're presented:

Close any Windows Internet Explorer windows that you have open. Then, start Internet Explorer, and try to sign in to Toolbar again.
Enable the Windows Live Sign-in Assistant add-ins in Internet Explorer.

Show me how
Start Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Programs tab, and then click Manage add-ons.
In the list of add-ins, click Windows Live Sign-in Control, and then click Enable.
In the list of add-ins, click Windows Live Sign-in Helper, and then click Enable.
Click OK, and then click OK again.
Try to sign in to Windows Live Toolbar again.

If the Windows Live Sign-in Control and Windows Live Sign-in Helper add-ins aren't displayed in Internet Explorer, reinstall Windows Live Toolbar.
Related topic
Install or uninstall Windows Live Toolbar

Although I follow these instructions, they won't work as stated! I can't uninstall the live toolbar, I can't uninstall windows live essentials at all!
nor can I re-install them - it's driving me crazy and I cannot sign in for live mail - anyone able to assist me please :) -
ah the trials and tribulations of Vista :)

There is no windows live control or sign-in assistant in IE add-ons :)

I do have a great sense of humour, but this problem is just as important to me as other peoples problems are to them!

I can't believe that nobody has replied to aid me in my present plight!

Sadly, it seems that the wiz's don't have an answer for this problem! :)

Ricky_22, I don't know if I can help or not, but give me a little more information. When you say you can't uninstall Live Toolbar, what happens? Do you get any error messages or anything? Giving us as much information as possible could help us resolve your issue.

It's exactly as I state in my first post, that typed in red is the message I receive when attempting to sign in, there is no 'sign-in assistant' in IE add ins! I cannot uninstall or reinstall any of windows live! on uninstalling through the usual way, absolutely nothing happens!
Also, when I attempt to start windows live messenger I get the following message!

C:\Program Files\windowslive\msnmsgr.exe

The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect.
Please see the application event log for more details!

:) as if I know what\where that is.

thanks for your interest, hope it might make some sense to you.

Sorry, I meant UNinstall in safe mode.
To get into safe mode tap F8 key during bootup until a black screen with white writing comes up , giving you several boot options and tools.
Then you select "safe mode" and hit enter. Your pc will then boot up with only the basic system files and drivers. It will look different because of a low screen resolution. Try uninstalling now and then reboot.
To get to the Event Viewer type "event viewer in the search box of the start menu.

Ricky_22,

To get to the event log, go to the Vista start button, and then type Event Viewer in the search box. It will bring it up so you can click on it. Say yes to the warning about the program trying to run. It may take a little time to finish loading all the logs. When it's done, look in the pane on the left and click on Windows logs, and then select Applications. Look for any errors related to Windows Live. Double click on it and another window will pop up. In the lower left, you'll see a Copy button. Click on it, and then paste into your reply here and it will give more information about the error.

I haven't done the 'safe mode' thing yet, just in case the error log may explain the problem in simpler terms! but If I do need to uninstall in safe mode, exactly how would I go about it? and find the program ??? as I'm not at all familiar with this action - sorry to be a drag

Did I mention that 'live messenger' also doesn't load, yet I have the full "windows live suite" on my HD :) it used to work! so I don't know what's happened? On the "live" toolbar, where it says "sign in" it's when I use that, that I get the message as mentioned in my first post! if I use the >> button I can sign in to my mail and calendar - but messenger just isnt mentioned there! I just don't know where it is, or why it doen't load :)

thnx for trying to help me, it is appreciated.
