I don't understand why it would keep changing back. Let me see if anyone else has any ideas. I've always had success with the registry fix, and as I'm sure you know, that's the solution that comes up on any Google searches. I've done some extensive searching in the Windows forums as well. Do you know if you have any failed updates? If you go to Tools > Windows Update, there's an option to check your update history. Do you see anything that's failed? They identify the updates that are specific to IE in the list, and the dates that they installed/failed.

Thanks for sticking with this.

I just checked my windows updates and none failed.

ie7 is working but I have not received another update from ms.

Is there something I can send to show the status of the system? Would it be useful to run Hijack This?
