Hi All!

My first posting (only joined today 11 Jan 09), so please be patient with me...

I'm having difficulty scheduling my PC (Windows XP Home Edition SP 3) to run a scheduled task "Backup".
I've got the Backup facility working, and scheduled a defrag ok, but I cannot get it to schedule a Backup. I followed Microsoft's own instructions (from their website) Start> Control Panel>Scheduled Tasks>Add Sheduled Task> followed "The Wizard" > Browse>WINDOWS>System32.......... No sign of it :) :) :)
Any ideas please?

N.B. I HAD Set Folders View to Show Hidden Files & Folders.

Windows Backup is not part of XP Home by default.
You need to install it from the XP CD.

" I'd already installed Backup from original disk, AND run disk Defrag as a Scheduled Task".
BUT
I cannot locate the Backup Disk in the location Microsoft say it is (from their website) Start> Control Panel>Scheduled Tasks>Add Sheduled Task> followed "The Wizard" > Browse>WINDOWS>System32.......... No sign of it

You execute the Ntbackup.msi file and it will install the program.

Look first to see if it actually installed the program.
Under XP pro it will be under start/ programs/ accessories/system tools. I suspect the same location under XP home.
If you do a search, it is labeled "ntbackup.exe".

When Scheduling the task, the program list should open and show you ever program that you could use. You should not have to browse for it.

O.K.... I managed to create the Sheduled Task for Backup, connected my 1TB Ext USB Hard Drive, and the wizard appeared, I set time, date etc and elected to backup everything on the Desktop PC.......THEN "Backup Progress" popped up a few minutes later, to say "The backup could not be completed due to an error"!!!!! :)
The Report stated:
"backup02- Notepad"
"Backup Status
Operation : Backup
Active Backup destination: File
Media name: "ChillblastBackup.bkf created 11/1/2009 at 1400"
Backup Status
The files for the recovery diskette could not be created. The operation was aborted.
The operation did not successfully complete"
:) :) :) :)

I still can't get it to work 17/1/09!
