Not sure if this is the right area or not, if not a mod could put it in the right place

I installed a game (westward III gold rush) and it worked fine for a couple of minutes, i exited the game shut down my PC for the night. this morning when i tried to boot the game back up i got the following error.

Microsoft visual c++ runtime library
Assertion failed
Program: ....
File:.\src\filstream.cpp
Line: 284
Expression:str

It then gives me the option to retry abort or Ignore
any of those either close or freeze the game

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
