You need to figure out what Linux Distro that you want to use. You then download the CD's or DVD ISO. Burn the ISO image to CD or DVD then put in the CD/DVD and boot from it. Typically most will run as a live CD where it is loaded into memory and nothing is installed on your hard drive. You can evaluate it and from there you can choose an option to install.
