I am running vista with norton security and firewall. no virus/spyware. I have been using the internet fine for the last 2 years with same ISP.

been using norton for some time (1 yr) and safe mode does not work.

i get an ip address and subnet mask, but for
default gateway i get 0.0.0.0. i dont know if this helps or not?

Yeah, that means, there is no connection.default gateway i get 0.0.0.0.
Before we go to some more diagnostic, I need more info....you said:
Do you mean router, or modem. Normally, ISP gives you modem, and you buy router by yourself. Do you use router at all, or just modem?i called my isp, and they have run through the normal things, and even send out a new router
This definitely means either your ISP, or modem problem, not a problem with your computer.my dsl light on my modem is out

yes mistake on my part, my ISP sent out a new modem. no i am not connected to a router.

Ok thanks, for all your help.If DSL light isn't on, there is something wrong with it. Call them back, and....INSIST.
Ill try to call them back now, and if things dont work out I guess I will just have to get a different ISP.
