I've been looking for help because I'm getting blocked at almost all anti-virus sites:((( One computer started with this behavior a few days ago, and now our second computer is doing the same thing. We're using XP, and on dialup for internet. When we try to update antivirus software or go to an antivirus website, we get nothing but error messages.

Hi there lets see if I can assist in this

I have uploaded to my site Combofix. renamed as Gotcha download this file and run as per the instructions below it will remain on my site for 24 hours

Gotcha Link

* IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

  • Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools

  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

  • As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

Posted Image

Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Next problem...how do I disable AVG 8 antivirus and antispyware??? I tried right-clicking on the System Tray icon...that only removed the icon, the software continues to run. Can I run combofix.exe with AVG still running?? I did get combofix.exe saved to the desktop though!

OK we have progress - still more to do but we may well be getting there. Can you update your Antivirus now ?

Please download the OTMoveIt3 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt3.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services
    acccvqfku
    jeveblizy
    sjunjl
    fhmkn

    :Reg
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\fhmkn]

    :Files
    c:\documents and settings\Owner\2009virus malware
    c:\windows\system32\01.tmp
    C:\windows\system32\eowfauh.dll

    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

THEN

To ensure that I get all the information this log will need to be attached (instructions at the end) if it is to large to attach then upload to Mediafire and post the sharing link.

Download OTScanit2 to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
  • Close ALL OTHER PROGRAMS.
  • Open the OTScanit folder and double-click on OTScanit.exe to start the program.
  • Check the box that says Scan All Users
  • Check the Radio button for Rootkit check YES
  • Under Additional Scans check the following:
    • File - Lop Check
    • File - Purity Scan
    • Evnt - EventViewer Errors/Warnings (last 10)
  • Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.
  • Let it run unhindered until it finishes.
  • When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.
  • Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.
Please attach the log in your next post.

To attach a file, do the following:
  • Click Add Reply
  • Under the reply panel is the Attachments Panel
  • Browse for the attachment file you want to upload, then click the green Upload button
  • Once it has uploaded, click the Manage Current Attachments drop down box
  • Click on Posted Image to insert the attachment into your post

I still can NOT update the antivirus; I also still can NOT get to the AVG.com website. Update of av yields "update failed" message; try to go to avg.com yields "the page can not be displayed" message. I will download as per your directions and post what you asked for. Please understand that I am on dialup and sometimes (MOST of the time) things move very slowly. Thanks for your patience!

No problem on the timing. I know what a pain a dial up can be. As for updating AVG I meant after you had run OTMoveit, my apologies for not making that clear

Attached File  OTScanIt.Txt   117.32KB   230 downloads

While OTScanIt was running, AVG popped up a message stating there was a threat; Trojan Horse Generic9.ACFR. It indicated it was found in Documents&Settings\owner\localsettings\temp\syuajjdy.dll.

I selected to move it to the virus vault, as I couldn't do anything with OTScanIt until I made a choice!

Sorry about not doing the earlier post as an attachment. I'm hoping this one comes through okay; it took two tries to get it to upload!

OK looking at that I need to get the big boy down now to kill it

1. Please download The Avenger2 by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Right click on the Avenger.zip folder and select "Extract All..."
  • Follow the prompts and extract the avenger folder to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Begin copying here:

Registry keys to delete:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\fhmkn
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\fhmkn

Drivers to delete:
fhmkn

Files to delete:
C:\windows\system32\eowfauh.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, open the avenger folder and start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon.
  • Right click on the window under Input script here:, and select Paste.
  • You can also Paste the text copied to the clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V), or click on the third button under the menu to paste it from the clipboard.
  • Click on Execute
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Delete" or "Drivers to Disable", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
5. Please copy/paste the content of c:\avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh Hijackthis log .

I did an AVG update...during the update I got a message from AVG indicating a threat had been found at C:\windows\system32\x
worm generic.rki

I moved this to the virus vault.

I WAS able to update, and I AM able to get to the AVG website:)))

I was kind of surprised to get another "Threat Detected" message though!

I also get a message indicating the MS Security Center is not loading when I go to Control Panel and click on Security Center. Is this something I can re-enable??
