I have just had my laptop given access to a new domain, but the user does not have access to MS Office apps. When trying to start Word or Excel I get a Windows INstaller window and a message "Preparing to Install.." on which the app hangs.
All apps work fine under my existing locl admin user.

it certainly looks like windows thinks the program has been assigned to a user, and it is looking for an install package, rather than being installed on the system

What happens if you put the cd in? Nothing?

and, since you are on a domain now, has office been assigned to his user group?

Have tried putting the CD in with no difference. Have also tried adding key to the registry as suggested in Event log - Detection of product '{00020409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}', feature 'OfficeUserData', component '{C9AF9050-C8BE-11D1-9C67-0000F81F1B38}' failed. The resource 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\UserData' does not exist.
