I found a computer in the closet and decided to see if it would work. It tends to do something different each time it is booted and never makes it in to POST. Some of the things that it does when powered on include:

---Freezing on the first screen saying Gateway
---Goes to a screen saying that the time has cahnged and asks me if it is correct
---Acts as though it is going to load, then 'loops' as thoguh it is trying to boot, until it finally freezes on the first screen again.

I've tryed different hard drives and RAM and it does nothing different. I have also tryed a boot disk.
Thank you for any help.

I imagine the operating system is not properly installed or has become corrupted. Either way, a fresh install of Windows would be the first thing I would try. You don't have to pay a lot for discontinued versions now -- just make sure it's a genuine Microsoft CD.

Howdy:

Willing to bet the CMOS battery is dead or dying.. Try replacing it then booting into BIOS and resetting everything..

I was thinking its CMOS too, I tryed switching the battery, but it did nothing again. I also can't reinstall Windows because it won't boot to any windows CDs and also won't allow me to get to an MS-DOS Command Prompt. So, I guess I'll try another battery, it's possible the other one was bad to. I'll get back on Monday once I try that, (computer is my service tech class in school). Thanks for any help.
