Problem: I continue to get Aurora Popups. Also I cannot access IE from desktop link, only from start menu or programs (could be something I did trying to remove spyware).

History: A week ago I was overloaded with popups (never got them before). I noticed that Cashbackbuddy, Navisearch, and Bullseye were installed on my computer (something I must have done inadvertantly). I removed those programs, with help of techs at Microsoft.

Have continually run Antivirus (Norton and Housecall) and spyware removal (Ad Aware-SE, Spybot, Microsoft). Thought I was clean and downloaded SP2, but problem persists

Actions taken: I have followed all of your pre-requisit steps. Prior to that I was continually running Antivirus and Spyware removal, also had conversations and help from Microsoft (most of the popups gone, still getting Aurora)

Thank you in advance for your help...I am very frustrated.

Here is my Hijackthis log:

Don77-

Thanks for your help. I've done as you instructed, and am posting the logs below. It seems to have worked (so far no popups). I still cannot connect to IE from the link on my desktop (I have to go to the start up window, or programs), any thoughts there? There is an icon on the desktop (no shortcut arrow though).

Thanks again...let me know if I have more work to do...here are the logs:

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the services called:

System Startup Service

or

SvcProc

When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Open HiJackThis, click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (make sure there are NO spaces before or after the name):

SvcProc
Click OK.

It should pull up information about the service, then ask if you want to reboot. Click YES.

Next
  • Please set your system to show
all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

  • Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check mark next to the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [\Pribi.exe] C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\Pribi\Pribi.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [fBw9RVH2j] jittask.exe
    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://software-dl.r...ip/RdxIE601.cab

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

  • Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:

    C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\Pribi\Pribi.exe
    jittask.exe

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.
Post back a fresh HijackThis log and we will take another look.

Don77-

Thanks again for your help. I did as you instructed, however when I went to windows explorer I was unable to locate the files that you asked me to delete (listed below):

C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\Pribi\Pribi.exe
jittask.exe

I accessed Windows Explorer in safe mode as you suggested.

Per your request here is the new hijack this log:

Nice job your log is clean !
How is it running ?
Please use the following suggestion to help prevent reinfection

Download the following program, For keeping crap off your system to begin with
Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Download Spyware Blaster

Keep Ad-aware and Spybot handy, Check them for updates prior to running and run them weekly
Same with your Anti Virus,

For an added check run an online virus scan, you can use one of the 2 below,
TrendMicro's HouseCall
ActiveScan

Be sure and give the Temp folders a cleaning out now and then as well, Make sure after you clean your Temp files to empty out your Recycle bin as well.
For ease use the following program
Download and install Cleanup
Run "Cleanup" and when it has finished, Reboot

Remeber to Check Windows for updates

Probably a good time to create a new restore point See Here Name it clean or something like that,

I still cannot connect to IE from the link on my desktop (I have to go to the start up window, or programs), any thoughts there? There is an icon on the desktop (no shortcut arrow though).

Go to the IE in your start up window, right click on it, scroll to Send to, Desktop (create short cut)
Check your Desktop see if it's there click on it and see what happens,
