But after Re-formatting my Acer laptop (Vista) it went all wrong and now for some reason, it wont let me connect. it still asks for a key... When he doesnt have one. Can anyone help me out a little bit please?

Hey Alex,

It seems strange that that would happen after you've done a format. Did you backup any data? Usually something like that will happen if your settings/wireless profiles become corrupt, which really shouldn't happen after a clean install.

My only suggestion would be to remove all wireless profiles, uninstall your Wireless adapter from Device Manager, turn off your machine for ten minutes, turn it back on and then allow Windows to re-install your drivers. Then attempt to connect to your friends router again.

If that doesn't do the trick, I would ask your friend to setup encryption once again, and seeing if that allows you to connect.

If that doesn't work, what type of encryption/security did your friend used to use?
