Hi there,

So I've got the really annoying Aurora pop-ups that everyone seems to be having problems with, but I also found Nail.exe in my windows folder. I've used Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, AVG Anti-Virus, TDS-3 and have now installed Spyware Blaster and Ad-Watch SE pro to try and fix things. So this removed lots of stuff but I still get those [bleep] Aurora pop-ups, still have the Nail.exe in the windows folder and on top of that I also have the Windows explorer window pop-up telling me that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close". So I then click on 'don't send' a report and it just keeps on popping-up like there's no tomorrow! I'm so glad that I also have a Mac to fall back on.

If anyone out there can help me, I would be truly grateful!

Many thanks,

Here's my HijackThis log:

Hello and welcome!! Please do the following:

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please run Notepad and copy the following text into a new file:

@ECHO OFF
cd %windir%
Nail.exe /FULLREMOVE
sc config SvcProc start= disabled
sc stop SvcProc
sc delete SvcProc
attrib -s -r -h nail.exe
attrib -s -r -h svcproc.exe
del nail.exe
del svcproc.exe
cd %windir%\system32
attrib -s -r -h DrPMon.dll
del DrPMon.dll
exit

Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.co.../safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Post the log from the scan here for me.

Then please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Hi Pomp86,
Thanks for your help!
So first of all I'm using a 20" Apple Cinema Display on my PC and my Radeon 9600pro doesn't show the dos boot screen when I boot up, this is some kinda bug with the ATI cards. Anyhow, this meant that I couldn't boot into safe mode, so I had to go out today and buy a Geforce based card in order to boot into safe mode, so I'm sorry to reply so late!
I followed all of your instructions, I scanned my system with Ewido and did the Hi/jackThis Fix & restarted windows, but only to find that windows would not boot, so I'm having to repair my installation right now. However, I do still have the logs, shall I still post them or does the fact that I have had to repair the installation change everything?

regards
