All the drivers are still there, but I can not get a cd disk it play. I used to have an icon that said CD player in my (MY Computer) Folder but is gone! Also used to be able to just put in a cd and a window would apear and asked what do you want to do, play, view, ect, not there anymore nither! Any help will be appreciated

Right click on My Computer and choose "Properties". In the Properties window, click the "Hardware" tab, then the "Device Manager" button. In Device Manager, expand (click +) DVD/CD-ROM drives.

Is your optical drive listed there?

I guess not! I see disk drives, floppy drive and somthing called IDE ATA/ATAPI but no CD Drive

Ok...let's back up one more step.

Restart the machine and enter BIOS Setup. Is the optical drive detected in BIOS?

Yes it was there, and was disabled, I enabled it,but still nothing? I had already down loaded CD fix, but it didn't do any good either! Now I'm here. What next? Thank you.

1. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
Right click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.
or...
2. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.
Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.

Ok Uninstalled both, then downloaded CD Fix, still no icon for Cd player! I can put a CD in and it will wizz like its wanting to play and the light blinks off and on, but nothing happens. I no the sounds on and I can play other music I already have on here, but the CD player won't

The drive may be simply dead.
The very last thing, which comes to my mind, would be loose, or bad CD drive data cable. To check this, you'd have to open computer case.

I'd have to agree with Broni. Probably the laser has failed and it can no longer "see" content.

Optical drives do have limited life times. Fortunately they are relatively inexpensive and quite easy to replace.

OK, I had said earlier in the BIOS that there was an CD/DVD player, what (it) said was CD/DVD (DETECT) was disabled and I had inabled it, was this the actaul CD player? If not then it is gone! Had went back into the BIOS To make sure that the changes I made had stayed in. Is this any help?

Yes I rechecked the BIOS and it is running. But it said CD/DVD detect. It didn't say Player or drive or anything like that, just CD/DVD detect? Is this the same?

No. It should be listed as CD ROM, for instance.
As we said before, you need a new drive. They start at $25 on-line.
