I've heard that disabling indexing on the C: drive helps to speed up Windows XP. Rather than just doing it without understanding what indexing is, I thought I'd ask first to make sure that disabling it is not a bad idea. What is indexing and why does Windows XP do it?

Turn it off on all partitions.

Only if its being turned off. If being disabled, it will take care of all of them.
