Ok, I triple checked what I did and yeah, sorry about that, I see what I did.
The only thing on File Exts. is the default with no value set.

Ok then.

Next thing to do is click on that FileExts and you will see another list.

In that list see if you can see .exe (it might not be there) and click on it if it is there.

There should only be (Default) and exefile under this key...if the key is present at all.

Come back and tell me what you see.

Hello again GordonW,

Please download the attached file.

Right click and extract all. The Extraction Wizard will open. Follow the prompts to extract. Double click to merge with the registry.

Morning Gordon or whatever time it is where you are.

Have you tried to run Malwarebytes since carrying out that instruction?

11:40am here in Portland,Oregon USA. Think I'd rather be in New Zealand right now.
Lots of unemployment here.
Anyway, here's the latest MBAM.

Yep, coming here too. How does that saying go...When America sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold!

In this post we will have another try to replace a file that can either be malware or a genuine microsoft file. The one showing up in your logs is not the right size for the microsoft one so it looks to have been patched - maybe by malware.

Now

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

KillAll::

FCopy::
C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache\ip6fw.sys|c:\windows\system32\drivers\ip6fw.sys

Save this as CFScript.txt, in the same location as ComboFix.exe

Posted Image

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it will produce a log for you at C:\ComboFix.txt which I will require together with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Hello GordonW,

Kaspersky on line scanner is very thorough. It can take a long time and for periods may seem not to be working. Just be patient and let it do its job.

Kaspersky works with Internet Explorer and Firefox 3.

Go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

Note: you will need to turn off your security programs to allow Kaspersky to do its job.

  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan.
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Hello GordonW,

I don't see an anti-virus program in that last HijackThis log.

My recommendation would be to install Avast if you haven't already done so. It is free to home users.

Avast

Moving along.

Your Adobe Acrobat Reader is out of date. Older versions are vunerable to attack.

Please go to the link below to update.

http://www.adobe.com.../readstep2.html

Now

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = :0
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

O23 - Service: AVG8 WatchDog (avg8wd) - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exe (file missing)

Close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

Close HiJackThis.

Next

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

3. Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

KillAll::

File::

c:\windows\system32\drivers\ip6fw.sys

Reboot::

Also please tell me how your computer is performing now.
