Greetings once again:

I would like to know how to install windows XP while taking off or even after I take off windows 2000. I don't remember how to do that. Whichever way is the right way to do it.

What type of XP disc do you have?
Is it an upgrade disc? or a retail (full) copy?

Generally its not difficult.

I don't have the driver disk. I do have the original install disk for windows XP Pro. I don't know if the drivers are on that or not. It has worked in the past when I would install it.

XP has more drivers than 2000.
If you have done this before, then you are pretty good to go.

After install and you have XP working, looking in device manager will tell you what wlse is in conflict and what you might need.
There are also programs that can be used to look furthure if needed.

My question is this...

Is there a way to take off windows 200 before I install windows XP?

I would like to start from a clean slate if I can.

Booting from the XP cd will allow you to do that. When you delete partitions and reformat, you wipe it right out.
You can use DBAN (Dericks boot and nuke) from my signature. It is normally an unnecessary step, but it will write 1 and 0 to the drive.

The drive manufacturers have utilities to do this also Such as format). Again, generally and unnecessary step.

Ok, I tried that, but it said there wasn't enough space to install it. So either I'm doing something wrong, or something is wrong with this computer.

6. This page enables you to select the hard disk drive on which Windows XP will be installed. Once you complete this step, all data on your hard disk drive will be removed and cannot be recovered. This will initially show your current Windows installation. Press D to delete the partion , and then press L when prompted. This deletes your existing data.

Well I was able to install XP.
The only problem is that it still has the 2000 on it.
Isl there any way to get that off of there? I also see that it has another option that is just called Windows, but it doesn't do anything. On one of the laptops it comes up with a C: prompt. On this one it doesn't have the C, but it still comes up. Both computers are the same thing.

Any suggestions?

Somehow you did not delete all the partitions and reformat the entire drive.
Run Dban. It will wipe the drive.

Stable Releases

* Download Darik's Boot and Nuke 1.0.7
o for CD and DVD media.
o for floppy disks and USB flash drives.

If you have a CD drive, use the cd and dvd media.
If you have a floppy, use the floppy.
They also have an image for a flash drive if the computer will recognise a flash drive boot.

I would use the CD drive image. Everyone has a cd drive.

Ok, I must be more of a dummy then I thought. I have d/l this and I still don't know how to use it. How do I open it and use it?
