My windows folder on my vista laptop is now 13.7gb, why does it take up so much space! its vista home basic so I don't know why it takes up so much space, anything in there that could take up so much space?
EDIT: Its the second biggest folder on my hard drive!

My hunches:
1. It's Vista, thus made shoddily, thus will do stupid stuff like that
2. You have some sort of malware that is making large files. Do some scans and just explore the folders in general. DON'T delete or move anything you don't know. One time I had a similar problem and it turned out that a trojan was on my computer taking screenshots of what I was doing, saving them in a subfolder of system32 and was sending them to a remote server.
3. A recent install or upgrade has put a lot of new large files in that folder
4. You accidentally put the system folder as the default folder for some program to put its files in that folder. For example, DVD backup software could be saving and not deleting DVD isos for burning, or a bittorrent client has incomplete "holder" files.

My biggest hunches are one and two...

My Vista folder takes about 16GB, and...?
I have 500GB HD, so what do I care?
What always amazes me with every new OS is this...
Two main outcry reasons are:
- why the OS takes so much space?
- why does it need better hardware, than the old OS?
Why? Because it's newer OS. More features, more options, etc., etc.
There is always a way to go back to Win 3.1, and get over with all those problems.
