Apart from typing errors that should mean the file does not exist.

Looking at the other error I'm afraid your data are lost.

Please try the command
CHKDSK

If you get ""The specified drive is not valid, or there is no disk in the drive."
you will need professional help to recover your data. :tazz:

after i was able to restore my system as mentioned in my first post, the d: drive and all its files and folders were named with random characters and jibberish. and it would not let me access any of the files or folders. does this somehow have anything to do with this. was my boot.ini screwed up before? have any ideas. do you think optino 2 will work and should i try it?

on the c: chkdsk "found one or more errors on the volume"

but seemed to scan fine. giving me sizes etc

but chkdsk on d: "appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems." and also gave sizes

and e: is fine as well

these are all partitions of one actual hard drive

C is the drive where Windows is installed. Correct?

Then use this command:
chkdsk C: /f

Let me know,

so i guess its clean now...

btw: almost none of my progs work ( now i have to figure out how to delete them and clean the reg, then reinstall all of them), all of my personal settings dumped, and some really strange things happened with my documents and settings subfolders that i don't understand. my d: drive was complete garbage and i lost a lot of files that i really want back. this was the last thing i wanted to happen.

but i'll live.

thanks for the effort, if there is anything else i should check to make sure its all clean let me know.

later,

steve

I'm sorry this happened. I really have no idea how. I have reread what we discussed and I see no cause in what I proposed or what you could have done to invoke this.

See if you can find a program here to recover some of your lost data:

just so you know. you didnt have anything to do with the data lose on my d: drive. it happened after i had deleted nail.exe and bolger.dll in safe mode before i even posted on this forum. so don't worry about it. it was a suggestion i had seen on another site.

oh and all the spy/malware was still there but was not "installed" so it was cleaned out by ms antispyware after i had reinstalled it. or at least it looks like its gone. also ran ad-aware and spybot and they didn't find anything. hope im good to go.

thanks again,
steve
