Hi,

I turned my laptop on and while I was surfing the internet I noticed a white line running down my screen. It is about 3 inches from the left edge. When I turned my screensaver on to see if that would make it go away my 3d text just bounces off of it like that is the edge of the screen.

I don't know how to adjust it back to the edge.

Can someone help?

Is the screen normal on both sides of the line, or is it black space on one side? If the screen displays everything except that line, it may be a physical problem with the pixels. If one side is no longer part of the display, you may have simply changed your display options.

Everything looks fine and is there like its supposed to be except for the thin line. It is very thin. I see what you are saying but Why would my screensave bounce off of it though?

Sounds like a setting problem. If your screen saver is actually using it as a boundary then it is in the programing and not a pixle error. I would go to disply settings set it to its lowest resolution reboot then sett it back to its normal setting and see if that works.

That didn't work. It just would seem to be a setting problem of some sort. The line is really thin and perfectly straight. Don't the pixels go dead one by one or in groups? Maybe they are grouped in lines? I don't know, I hope someone can help me with this...I can't afford to buy a new screen =(.

Anyone got any other advice?

Sorry its taken me a while to respond. Here are a few thing I can suggest that may possibly fix it, or will identify if its a pixel problem or setting problem.

1. You've probably already done this, but turn everything off, give it a little while to sit, and turn it back on. That probably won't fix it, but its worth a try.

2. If your laptop has the option to re-size your screen (shrink, stretch, etc) stretch it to one side. If the line moves, its a settings issue. If it doesn't, its a line of dead pixels. If its dead pixels there are pretty much two things you can do: fix it (which you didn't seem to want to do) or just keep using it as is.

Thanks for getting back with me. I had already tried all those suggestions and have come to the conclusion its dead pixels. The 3d text screensaver actually WAS NOT bouncing off it. It's just where the border for it to bounces off is because the same thing happens on the other side of the screen. This is also the same on all my other computers. For some reason, the text bouncing around doesn't go all the way to the screens edge...it bounces around like it's in an invisible box. Like, it only uses the middle of the screen...doesn't go all the way to the edges. I guess that's just how it does it...all the other computers are the same way.

Thanks, though. And luckily, most web pages I go to have a light color or white background and the line isn't really noticed much when I'm surfing. No more watching movies on my laptop though =(. Sounds like a good reason to go buy a Big Screen
