my system 'sony viao PCV-RX770' came pre loaded with xp home and a 120g hard drive "partitioned" at 20g for 'c' and 100g for 'd'
when i check my drives i get the following: 'c' 14.9g total size -- 999 mb free space and 'd' 99.5g total size -- 62.4g free space. i have tried to load all my programs on the d drive to give windows room to work.cut now it seem full.
what can i do to creat more free space on the 'c' drive

You can also re-partition the drives by using partition magic or ghost, or something similar.

Make sure you back up your files before doing so, as a precaution in case something goes wrong.
