problem with automatic updates

I recently had my computer disinfected by G2G (All praise to Trevuren) and I don't know if a setting was changed and when, but I cannot turn automatic updates on. All buttons are greyed and can't click on anything.

I don't know what to do to turn them on and am now shamelessly pleading for help.
