I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with a Intel Pentium M Processor 1.70GHz with 2GHz memory and a 137GB HDD
I was using my computer to watch a movie and then turned it off and when I turned it back on it will only boot to a black screen with a blinking cursor.
The only two options I have is to boot to BIOS (f2) of to Boot Menu (f12)
I have checked the BIOS and it seems fine
I have booted from the windows cd and tried a windows repair
I have booted from the windows cd and went into dos threw the repair option using recovery console and have tried chkdsk /r, fixmbr, and fixboot
Nothing has worked!
Every now and then when I try to boot up the black screen has a bunch of random letters and characters and beeps but does not do anything
I have taken out the hard drive and tried my old 40GB one and it works fine
I have taken out the hard drive and hooked it up to my desktop thru a usb port and I can access all the files
If you have any suggestions on how to get this to work please let me know

If you installed another hard disk and all is working well then the problem must be with the 137GB disk. The fact that you can see your files indicate to an operating system problem and not to the hardware. Taking into consideration the steps that you already took to rectify the problem I think that your best option is to backup your data, reformat and clean install. If that doesn't help I would consider low level format (zeroing all bits on the HD).
