When ever I start up Office 2003 or Internet Explorer, my pc always gives me a prompt

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-Rom or other removable disk that is not available ...
Insert the MICrosoft 2003 bla blah and click ok"

Then I click browse it ask for BASIC11N.msi??

I dont have the Office cd. But When i click cancel multiple times it allows me to access the program im trying to access

Any help thanks :)

This could be a Windows Installer error. Run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. After its installed, start it from the Programs menu and highlight and remove the installer information for Office 2003. This will not remove Office 2003 but it should remove alert you are seeing.

Odd that that MS kb should mention Office 2003. :)

Let us know if that works for you.

No this won't affect the program itself, it simply removes the installer information that was used internally during the installation of the Office program. Sometimes this info becomes corrupted or otherwise faulty resulting in bogus alerts like the one that you are seeing. Office 2003 will continue to operate normally.

According to the readme file:

To run the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility, use either of the following methods:
- Click 'Start', click 'All Programs' (or 'Programs' on some operating systems), and then click the shortcut for the Windows Installer Clean Up Utility.
- Find and run the Msicuu.exe file.

Anyway, if its running, that's fine. Highlight the Office 2003 entry, or the line that has BASIC11N.msi and click remove. You may have to reboot for this fix to take effect.

What do you mean its gone? Gone from the Programs menu? Gone from Program Files? According to the MS kb it does not remove the program and I've never seen it do that.

If you restore again is it back?

Ok thats a relief, Lets not use that utility anymore.

Have you used any registry cleaners? Have you always had this error or is this a recent occurrence?
