i was trying to to do a virus scan in safe mode and my computer froze, so i had to manually power off the computer. when i turned it back on i recieved the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH! my error message was 0x0000007B. i've turned the computer off repeatedly and i've unplugged it. nothing is working and i keep getting the screen. i'm not a computer expert, so i'll need some basic instructions i can follow without killing my baby PLEASE and THANK YOU!
i have windows xp. i'm not sure which disk delivered by dell is for me to re-install my os.

i'm sorry, i'm working from my dad's laptop and it runs really really really slow and i thought i had lost the post. i didn't try to double post. windows will not load on my computer at all. i've tried it in safe mode and it always goes back to the blue screen. i never make it to the login prompt or anything.

sorry, i got it now!

a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. if this screen appears again, follow these steps:

check for viruses on your computer. remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

The second parameter, 0xc0000034 would point to missing or corrupt driver, but since the same thing happens in Safe Mode as well, then the driver issue is less likely.
Other possible causes could be master boot infection, or damaged hard drive.
Since you mentioned some sort of infection....

1. If you have Windows CD, follow the steps from here: http://icrontic.com/...pair_windows_xp

2. If you don't have Windows CD...
Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomput...om/files/rc.iso
Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.c...hp?act=download
Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD.
Boot to the CD...let it finish loading.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.

since the same thing happens in Safe Mode as well, then the driver issue is less likely.

safe mode will not even come up, no matter what i chose, it all takes me back to the BSOD. windows will not load at all.

i've burned rc.iso to a cd. how do i boot it

With computer on, put the CD in.
Restart computer, and look for the following message:
Press any key to boot from CD
At this moment press any key on your keyboard.

i never get the prompt to press any key to boot cd. after the dell screen loads, i get a black screen with the message:
