Thank you in advance for your help. I have gone through all the procedures described in "You must read before placing a Highjack Log".

I am running XP home on my laptop. It has started to play up a week ago. I think my laptop is hit by viruses. I initially started getting message everytime I reboot my laptop with "Data execution Prevention" error. it would say " Generic Host Process for Win32 services need to close". Then it would ask me for sending the report to microsoft. this message would come up 3-4 times at every reboot.

Then when I tried to play any video on winamp, the message would pop up saying "Bad Directsound driver. please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078". so i tried to run few antivirus program but whenver i tried to run .exe file the laptop would freeze so I had to close the application by going into task manager and do the Endtask process. The sound would not play at all. therefore I tried to run few online scans and i managed to get rid of error messages "data execution prevention error" and now i can run .exe files. but my winamp sometimes run and sometimes doesn't.

But still I think my laptop is not working as it used to work a week before. still when i go into control panel and click on sound and audio devices sometimes all options inside sound and audio are grayed out. but intermittently if I am lucky, then sometimes my audio and sound system works fine. everytime on reboot I have to go to services and manually start the windows audio. My google taskbar notifier on internet exlorer has disappeared totally. my laptop has been running slow ever since this all has happened.

Moreover, whenever I go into services and try to start Application management (starttype is manual) it says "could not start the Application Management Service on Local computer. Error 2: The system can not find the file specified." I haven't tried to run other services as I am not familiar with them. but this might be happening to few other services as well. Sometimes when I boot my laptop my windows firewall also doesnt work. so when I try to start them by going to control panel I cannt do it as it is grayed out. I also try to go into services and try to start Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing(ICS). but sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesnt and same error message "could not start ..." comes up.
