well. as i've said in my description. in the last week my computer was suddenly slow to download things. i watch a few videos on youtube, and i thought it was my temp. files, so i did a thorough cleaning.
things were still rather slow, and stayed so. i decided to do the works- defragment, etc. i ran my norton antivirus a few days ago, and came out clear. i also ran adaware, and it removed a few things. but, essentially, the speed of my computer stayed the same. finally, i just got frustrated, and looked a little deeper.
i came back here and went through the maleware steps. here is my maleware log, and my hijackthis log, in italics.

my problem and worry, now? well. i can't scan my computer with my norton anymore- an error message comes up when i do. and, when i try to perform a microsoft update, it says i need to install ActiveX.... without providing the accessing bar to do so.
is there anything that can be done so i don't have to do a complete system wipe? because i WILL if i have to- i'd just prefer not to if it could be helped.
let me know. :-)
EDITED IN:
I just figured out what happened with the Microsoft Windows update. I needed to enable something I had disabled previously in my "manage add-ons" section. The updates are "up to date" now, as of the 10th. Norton still refuses to scan, citing a "Error: Norton Antivirus 2008 was unable to scan your computer for infections" (3019,6). So, am trying the "intelligent updater". (I still have 195 days left on the subscription).
