Hello

Since the last time that I had a problem in Dec 2008 I have been ok

my last post was VirusRemover 2008 problem helped thankfully very well by Greyknight.

then last night I seem to have accidentally clicked on a icon on my laptop that I thought ws part of windows XP
antivirus software and it seems that it is in fact one of those False antivrus icons and it has tried to install itself
as my main AV software on my laptop.

It is called XP Police antivirus...

THe last virus I had Greyknight gave me a Free Malwarebytes antimalaware software AV checker.

I ran it and it only seems to have quarenteened the virus and not deleted it.

I wonder if I should be able to remove it.. as my machine still seems slower than it was before it occurred.

can Greyknight or anyone advise

Many thanks

Hello, my name is fenzodahl512 and welcome to Geekstogo.. Please do the following...

Please download RSIT by random/random and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT
  • Before you click "Continue", make sure you change the List files/folders created or modified in the last 3 months
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt in your next reply.

NEXT

Please download GMER and unzip it to your Desktop. <<mirror>>
  • Open the program and click on the Rootkit tab.
  • Make sure all the boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for ‘Show All’.
  • Click on Scan.
  • When the scan has run click Copy and paste the results into a Notepad >> save it and attach in this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any program while you are doing these scans as it may interfere with the output results

Post me these logs in your next reply.. Post each log in separate post..

1 RSIT log.txt
2. RSIT info.txt
3. Attach GMER result..

See the red one, if you look at your RSIT, by default it will set at 1 month.. Change that to 3 months

Hi

As I open gmer... I assume that the the rootkit tab is at the top RHS.... it appears t open on it already..
hene i dont need to click on anything..all boxes are ticked EXCEPT .. show all..
BUT.... it initially it wont respond... ..

then it came up with this msg...

warning.. gmer has found system modification..which may be caused by rootkit activity,,

do you want to fully scan system ?

should I click yes ?

just checking before i scan as it seemed to not work quite as you indicate.. maybe theres a file problem or something..
----------------------------

Please download GMER and unzip it to your Desktop. <<mirror>>

Open the program and click on the Rootkit tab.
Make sure all the boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for ‘Show All’.
Click on Scan.
When the scan has run click Copy and paste the results into a Notepad >> save it and attach in this thread.

Ok.. stop it, save the logfile (whatever you have) >> post it here, then do below...

Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.

Double-click gmer.exe. The program will begin to run.

**Caution**
These types of scans can produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any
"<--- ROOKIT" entries unless advised!

If possible rootkit activity is found, you will be asked if you would like to perform a full scan.
  • Click NO
  • In the right panel, you will see a bunch of boxes that have been checked ... leave everything checked and ensure the Show all box is un-checked.
  • Now click the Scan button.
Once the scan is complete, you may receive another notice about rootkit activity.
  • Click OK.
  • GMER will produce a log. Click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "GMER.txt"
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop.
Post the contents of GMER.txt in your next reply.
