i am so so so ready to take a shotgun to this #*%@ computer. i have been trying for at least five days to locate and load usb 2.0 drivers. have read this formum and walked it through so many times! UGH! .......... HAVE so much crude to say! i am soooo pissed, anyway...
i apologize.

okay, i can have two windows open. i do this so i wont forget where an item is that i need to ... download/open/etc.
the file i need will be there in plane sight, if needed i have gone into properties and checked the "show hidden files" also "unblocked" files in thier properties tab.
SO WHY! please tell me, when i go to get this particular driver/file it will not show up. window #1 has twenty files in it, i have searched by opening a file over and over until i got to what i needed, than left it open so as to not lose it.
window #2 i have opened something like device manager to update something. okay, do the normal search with windows, it cant find it. now i will show windows where it is, i can open up the three/four files to get to it, and then there is only three files showing! but i glance back at window #1, THEY ARE STILL THERE! ! ! i will than check all the properties of each individual file, are they shared/blocked/etc. i just cant do it. i have had this happen before, and i never figured out why suddenly after a week or so, they let me in to download. i am trying to scan a BUNCH of pictures, and my gps, phone , etc are all plugged in through the usb. and i am sick of the warning of how i am losing something because of not having the usb 2.0 drivers.

sorry, i have just been trying for so long.

thank you,
Louis

Hello varylou1 & Welcome to GTG

Quote: " i am sick of the warning of how i am losing something because of not having the usb 2.0 drivers "

The only difference is that it is running at a lower transfer rate , 2.0 has a significant improvement in transfer rate

EG: Full Speed(USB 1.1) USB is only 12Mbits/second (1.5Mbps & 12Mbps) where Hi-Speed(2.0) USB mode is capable of a much faster 480Mbits/second

Hope that clears that up :)

Anthony19

PS: i am not sure about the file missing situation , never come across it before ( but someone here may have )

best of luck !!!

oops! i hope GtG didn't take my complaining as complaining about this site. NOT AT ALL. just frustrated at my computer. thanks Anthony 19, i understand the differences between 1.1 and 2.0. everytime something gets plugged in, or now that i have added a freeagent backup, it is constantly telling me how i need to install 2.0 drivers for the full potential. i would like to do just that, especially since i am trying to convert a film/picture collection to digital. with every single scan it reminds me how " it will be much slower without proper drivers"
i have screwed the pooch since i originally posted. i managed to make it "see" the usb 2.0 driver, and i "forced it" to load, even after it said it was not xp tested. well, i got the blue screen and it kept rebooting. so for the past 3-4 hours it is has been in recovery with the windows disk doing a chkdsk. i will hopefully soon see the damage.
thank you
Louis

How did you make it see and force to load ??? , Through the device manager ???

Quote: said it was not xp tested
i think you mean the recommendation... , this driver was not written for this hardware .. or something like that ???

Best of luck

Anthony19
EDITED:Bad Spelling Mistakes :)

PS: Your best bet would be to add a PCI USB 2.0 card ( Upgrade that involves opening the computer case... , once you reboot the new hardware will be detected ... and the drivers will be installed...
